Final Surgery Preparations

This week has been eventful. It was the first week of my training plan that included some speed work and hill repeats. I was super stoked and then Monday morning it rained HARD with freezing temperatures. My friend Angela and I had gone to an hour long kick boxing class Sunday night and I definitely over-did it, so I used the weather to take a rest day on Monday.

Tuesday saw more of the same weather, but the house call biz has been slow, so with no clients to take care of, I took my bottom to the YMCA and ran my easy run on the treadmill. Even though I hardly know her, I randomly picked a treadmill right next to my neighbor who also has two children about my kids' age. I see her husband more often, as he's the one who puts their daughter on the bus. We chatted for a good while and I hope that we will get to know each other more as time goes by. She said she might be interested in running some, so I maybe I can count her as a new running buddy soon! I showered at the Y and went to the hospital to get my pre-op lab testing done. The juxtaposition of the fact that I had gotten up early to lift, then run three miles on the treadmill just before heading to the hospital for the third time this month is just so strange to me:

Wednesday morning I did a fun hill repeats work out! This was the first time I have done anything like this and it was totally a blast! The only issue was that I tripped and took a little tumble a few doors down from my house. It was entirely my fault - apparently running while distracted by your phone is only marginally safer than driving while distracted by your phone... I dusted myself off and trotted away, though, with only a couple of scrapes and bruises. Thankfully the damage was minor and I learned a lesson about running in the dark with your phone in front of your face...

Thursday, once again, I had no house calls, so I got ANOTHER morning to myself. This is a rare, rare thing. I needed a week like this. Angela and I went out for an easy run in Beaver - down along the river on my favorite local loop. Afterwards, I went to Cafe Kolache for coffee and a late breakfast. I wasn't there ten minutes when my dad texted me: "Are you in Beaver?" He thought he had seen my step-mom driving by, so he checked Life360 to see where she was but instead found that I was, indeed, in Beaver. He came and sat with me while I finished my coffee and then we had a nice lunch together at the Wooden Indian. I had my little afternoon nap with B and the dogs, then MiMi came over for dinner! I got a meal with both of my parents in one day! I made brownies, but when my attempt at making strawberry icing failed miserably, I turned the failed icing into a strawberry cake and ran to the dollar store for fake icing. The results were (and still are) yummy!.

Friday I had an easy surgery day and Mel and I had lunch at Armstrong's. YUM! That evening the kids and Joe and I played Super Smash Brothers all evening :) Each day this week, the thoughts about surgery took up more of my brain and my processing power decreased in line.

Saturday morning saw my last bit of work for awhile. It was a busy morning but it passed quickly. I got word that Angela was looking for a running buddy in the afternoon, so she took me to Graham Park, which was new to me, for a five mile jog. It was really cold and windy and my cheap WalMart hat was not warm enough. I forgot my gloves. Thank God for running buddies who have extra gloves, haha. I generally just didn't feel great for the whole run, but having someone there with me meant all the world to me and we both conquered our five miles and now can move on to the next run. Saturday night, Cami and I took a long drive with May May, my sister Mel, and her dog Taryn out to Latrobe to an agility facility for a lure coursing event. If you haven't seen lure coursing, it's where the dogs chase a white flag that's pulled at fast speeds along a rope on the ground. May May took to it like a natural, because she IS a natural. It was so much fun to watch her hit the gas :) Mel and Cami and I had a really fun time just hanging out!

So that brings us to today. Church this morning was a comfortable norm. I did feel a bit like hiding as everyone wanted to hug me or shake my hand and generally offer their good wishes and prayers and ask things like "How are you?" and "When is your surgery?" I don't mean this at all as a complaint, because truly I feel so very blessed, but it's exhausting receiving all that love! Joe and I had a couple of hours at home and then it was back out with the church family for cosmic bowling. As the afternoon went on I felt more like crawling up under some blankets and hiding for the rest of the day. I'm so blessed by the support I have in my church family :) The kids went home with my Dad and Step-Mom and Joe and I made a stop for Angel Wings, followed by a stop at home and then we went out for dinner at Mario's Dockside Grille. We kind of pigged out, haha! I had a great IPA and now we are home and I'm on my first glass of wine. It feels far later than it really is, and I'm about ready for bed already. I have one more small blog post to make but aside from that, my plan is to turn on Netflix until it's time to sleep :) I've got to report to the hospital at 8:15 tomorrow for a 9:45 surgery - thumbs up!
